Editorial & listing policy
The rules we hold ourselves to: which facilities appear here, where their details originate, who writes our health pages, and what happens when something turns out to be wrong.
How we build the directory
Every record in this directory comes from the federal treatment locator maintained by SAMHSA — the public register of substance use treatment facilities licensed or certified by their state. We reproduce the name, address, phone number, and reported levels of care from that source, and refresh the data periodically. A program appears here only if SAMHSA lists it.
How our health pages are written
Our guides — what withdrawal generally involves, how the levels of care differ, what medication-assisted treatment means — are built on guidance already published by public health and clinical authorities including SAMHSA, NIDA, NIAAA, and the CDC. We write about general patterns rather than predicting any individual's experience, and we make no claims about recovery rates, guaranteed results, or cures. Read these pages as background reading; they cannot stand in for the judgment of a licensed clinician who knows your situation.
Advertising never touches the listings
There is no price for inclusion, no price for ranking higher, no price for a more flattering write-up, and no way to pay to have a rival taken down. Decisions about what the directory contains and what our articles say are made independently of anyone involved in selling advertising.
The words we choose
We describe people before conditions — someone living with a substance use disorder, not an "addict" — because stigmatizing labels keep people from asking for help. Fear-based messaging, shaming, and high-pressure sales language have no place on this site.
Getting things fixed
Programs close, relocate, rebrand, and occasionally lose their license. Let us know about any of it and we will confirm the change before correcting or deleting the entry. We also keep the right to pull any listing at any time, without advance notice, if we believe the program is unlicensed or operating unethically. Flag anything that looks wrong through the contact page.
Firsthand feedback
If we publish comments from someone who went through a program, a person reads them first. Treat any such account as one individual's recollection, not a clinical evaluation of the facility. We neither pay for this feedback nor accept it from the programs themselves.
Listing disclaimer
Listings are compiled from SAMHSA's national treatment locator. Inclusion is not an endorsement, rating, or guarantee of licensure, quality, safety, or outcome, and details may change without notice. Verify services, credentials, insurance, and cost directly with any facility before making a decision. We do not charge providers for placement.
